Euthanasia
Purpose statement: to convince my audience that Euthanasia with doctor's consent should be legal.
I. Euthanasia can be used in a positive way.
A. Doctor controlled euthanasia can help patients more than they know.
B. It provides a way to relieve extreme pain.
C. It provides a way of relief when a person's quality of life is low.
II. In the United States it should be legalized.
A. Oregon death with dignity act passed in 1994
1. Only available for physician assisted suicide.
B. "Mercy Killing" is the best case for relieving pain.
C. Fifty- two percent of people agreed that states should have the right to let doctors prescribe lethal medication to a terminally ill patient.
D. Americans should enjoy a right guaranteed in the European Declaration of Human Rights. The right not to be forced to suffer.
III. Financial and emotional gratification.
A. Fincancial pain when in the hospital can bring families down for a long time depending on disease.
1. Euthanasia can help end the financial bind families may be facing.
B. Emotional pain can lead to long term depression.
1. If life is ended quick and painless it may relieve the pain and sadness of family members who may be also effected by the disease if not physically, emotionally.
IV. Conclusion.
A. Imagine if you have an uncle that is in the hospital (god forbid this ever to happen)
1. What would you want to happen if the doctor offered a way out?
2. What if all the pain and suffering could end with one pill, or one shot in the arm?
3. All the pain can be resolved with euthanasia.
