In today's high schools you can see many different groups of people with unique features and styles. A majority of people look normal at first glance, but there are also groups that attract a lot of attention with their unusual appearances. For the sake of nonconformity Goths, Emos, Punks, and Scene kids wear strange outfits that are mostly black and unlike anything most people wear. These groups have distinct characteristics regarding their clothing and general attitude, but they all turn heads at schools everywhere.

The main views of Goth kids are on the darker side of life. This is apparent through the black clothes and heavy makeup they wear. This social group usually likes to listen to Gothic Rock and different types of Extreme Metal because of the dark nature of those genres. It's also common for people of this group to write dark poetry to reflect their views on life. The Goths are often mixed up with Emos, who look similar but wear less jewelry and studs and more tight clothes.

The term Emo is short for 'emotional,' which is what their lifestyle represents. The black clothing and hair dye is a clear representation of the feelings they struggle with. Emos, however, aren't the only people who are associated with Screamo music. Scene kids are another group that is gaining popularity in that music scene.

The line between Scene and Emo is about as vague as the one between Goth and Emo, but still obvious to well-trained eyes. The Scene style is much more colorful than the Emo one, and consists of a wide variety of decorations to add uniqueness to each kid's appearance. Gauged ears, dyed hair, and tight fitting clothes are just a few common traits of a scene kid's style. Unlike Emos, scene kids are generally happy and confident in themselves. They prefer dancing and partying to writing sad poems or songs, and they dress the way they do to express their individuality.

Punks are another strange group to look at. They have the same interests in being loud and spontaneous as scene kids do, but their style is much more extreme. The typical punk will wear a lot of black and denim. Chains studs and mohawks are also common features of many punks' outfits. Punks are the way they are to be rebellious, and punk music expresses these ideals very clearly. Anarchy, anger, and disobedience are the subjects of a lot of Punk songs. Moshing is one of the most common sights at a Punk concert
