His father Prescott Bush was a senator for Connecticut later on in his life he had 6 kids and two of his sons both became politically involved. Jeb was the Florida's Governor and his other son George W. Bush was the 43rd president of the United States. George's family valued hard work and public service.

As he turned 18, he enlisted into the Navy. He was the youngest pilot in the Navy and real interested in naval aviation. During WWII, he was one of four different pilots of the Grumman TBM Avenger for the VT-51, (his squadron). Their mission was to attack Japanese Installments on Chichijima. During this mission they encountered heavy anti-aircraft fire, flak and bush's plane was severely damaged and caught fire. Despite having a plane that was on fire, Bush was determined to complete the mission. He flew over his destination and had the opportunity to release his bombs which had a damaging impact on the target. After he accomplished this, he had a engine that was on fire to worry about. He then flew a safe distance away from the island and him and one other crew member jumped out of the airplane but only Bush survived the jump. He landed in open waters and waited for multiple hours in a life raft while the other ally fighter pilots circled over head for protection. He was then rescued by a U.S. Submarine and stayed on the U.S. Finback for a month or so to save other downed and stranded pilots. George H. W. Bush was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his bravery in action to complete his mission under the circumstances and still survive at all costs.

He then went on to start the Bush-Overby Oil Development in 1951. He was then president of the off shore drilling division for Zapata drilling company. This was after he was a co-founder of Zapata Petroleum Company. His oil industry days had served him well and made him a millionaire.

His strong beliefs lead him to try to get elected for senate. He served two terms as representative to congress from Texas. He attempted for the senate seat two different occasions but lost both times. He then was elected into the ambassador to the United Nations and served from 1971 to 1973. He was appointed by Nixon after he was noticed for his sacrifices. Then he was on the chairmen of the Republican National Committee. This was immediately after the Watergate scandal and Nixon appointed Bush as chairmen. Bush was put on chair as both Nixon and the republican party reputation was dwindling. This caused Bush to stand by Nixon and defend him but soon noticed there was no hope for Nixon and then moved to try to conserve the republican parties reputation.
