The globalization of societies all across the world has resulted in teachers being faced with varied challenges. This is because as facilitators of learning, teachers need to impart to students much more knowledge than that which is encapsulated in the objectives of a curriculum. In fact, teachers need to be active, informed and intrinsically motivated individuals who are willing to develop in their students a level of tolerance and self-esteem, which will result in their students being productive citizens of their school, community and ultimately the world. It is my belief that I have the academic and interpersonal skills which one must possess in order to be effective in this constantly evolving teaching-learning environment.

Over the past fourteen years my experience encompasses being a classroom teacher, form tutor, and an Acting Head of Department. I enjoy working with children, and hence, teaching has become my life long career. My work experiences covers both local and internationals schools. I'm always willing to take on new challenge and employ new ways and strategies of teaching that will help my students to achieve their maximum potential; in this ever changing teaching and learning environment.

Admittedly, I do possess skills, which have prepared me for the challenges, which are associated with teaching children with varied behavioural issues and learning styles. However, there are several policies and procedures with which I have become familiar with. I have widened my Knowledge of the language acquisition process, which an EAL student goes through in order to achieve fluency in the English Language. During the past ten years of teaching in the UK I have learnt about the intricacies of the National Curriculum, the National Literacy & Numeracy Strategy, The GCSE programme of study and the transition from one key stage to another. As well as using personal, learning and thinking skills within the development and delivery of my lesson. Furthermore, I have also developed novel ways of addressing any behavioural situation that might develop using behaviour modification strategies in the inclusive classroom. Above all, I have learnt how to carefully adapt my already existing skills to the teaching and learning styles which operate within the classrooms.

While teaching at xxxxxxx School I was instrumental in reintroducing Electronics/Systems & Control to the school curriculum at Key Stage three, this involved identify what types of projects to introduce to the pupils as well as writing the schemes of work to support these projects.

During my tenure as Acting Head of department at xxxxxxxxx School ; the school was in special measure and the department was going through major changes, suffice to say that we came out of special measure and I was a part of the team that propelled the school forward enabling it to become a good school. As a classroom teacher, at xxxxxxx I taught Graphics and Resistant Material at Key Stage three and four, as well as Product Design at A levels. As of joining the school in 2004 the results for Graphics and Resistant Material was the lowest in the school's history, below 10% A*-C. I was not comfortable with that result, so I set out to identify areas of weaknesses and see how best to address them. After analysing the moderator's report for the last three years, "lack or insufficient use of ICT" appears to be a common statement in the reports, suggesting possible reason for low coursework grade. Another area that was identified was the poor outcome of products; the pupil's designing and making skill needed serious attention. I realise there was no short term fix to these problems, especially the design and make skills, but use of ICT could readily be addressed as the department has a computer suite and Camm1 machine as well as a Mercury Laser Cutter machine. I began to look at the key stage 3 curriculum, and how to incorporate the use of ICT where possible as well as introducing projects that will improve their design and make skills. These problems were not synonymous with Graphics and Resistant Material but also in Food and Textiles even though their results were far better off. I decided to share my analysis with the department not just because I was acting Head of Department but because I believe in sharing good practices as well as there should be not areas of excellence but the entire department excellence. I design a fool's guide to use 2D Design with Laser Cutter as well as held and run an inset in the department on "The use of ICT in Design and Technology with special focus on 2D Design and CAD CAM".
