Good morning everyone, as you know, my name is Kelvin, today I'm going to give you a presentation on the environmental issue and the title of my presentation is Does Climate changes bring social impacts. According to Oxford, climate means the regular pattern of weather condition. Then climate change refers to the difference of weather when compare to the past. In this case, social impacts refer to the consequences of climate changes bring to the social publics. In the following presentation, I will argue that climate changes does bring social impact to society and civilians by direction, which are the extreme weather case, Health problem and the extinction of species.

According to the department of Ecology in Washington, climate change will lead to different types of extreme weather events. For example, more storm water, flooding and drought are three main extreme weather events associated with climate change. For instance, there will be more winter precipitations falling as rain instead of snow, which will results in less winter snow accumulation and earlier spring snowmelt, which the trend have been observed by the researchers in University of Washington. Moreover, drought is another serious problem, the department of Ecology claims that with a 3.6-degree warming, droughts will occur more frequently, which will affect the society by less water is supplied to the city, which will result in the shortage of water. Furthermore, droughts will increase forest fire, and the number of large forest fire have increased from an average of 6 per year in 1970's to 21 per year in 2010's. Forest fire will produce carbon dioxide and destroy trees, which can absorb carbon dioxide from the air.

Secondly, climate change will affect the health of the publics in both direct and indirect way. Climate change will produce large amount of heat waves and increase the durability of high temperature. According to Bergman, heat waves are more common in different countries, like Germany, United States of America and United Kingdom. The increases in the production of heat waves will result in the increase of possibility of heart attach and heat stroke. Kennedy Harmon reports that the Chicago heat wave in the summer of 1995 killed an estimated 692 people and sent at least 3300 people to the emergency room. An observational study shows that 28% of the patient who sent to the emergency room had been suffers from heat stroke. Other than the production of heat waves, climate change will also indirectly affect the carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the concentrations in the atmosphere increased from approximately 280 parts per million in the time before machines were introduced to 382ppm in 2006. Increased in the carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere will decrease the content of oxygen and will lead to more serious asthma.
