History of Industry in Pakistan

nothingIf we look at the history of industry in Pakistan from 1947 up till now, it is clear that we have increased the number of industries but we haven't focused to improve its quality. At the time of independence we had only 9 sugar mills and now we have 78 sugar industries, 40 in Punjab, 32 in Sindh, and 10 in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. We had no tobacco processing unit at the time of independence and now we have 30 cigrate manufacturing units located at Jhelum, Lahore, Multan, Sukkher, Karachi and Nowshera. Pakistan has 25 cement industries, 10 in Punjab, 5 in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, 9 in Sindh and 1 in Baluchistan. 25 factories are working at public sector and 21 at private sector. At present We have 166 edible and cooking oil industries most of which are run by private sector. We had no steel mill at the time of partition and now a big steel mill has been established in Karachi. After independence Pakistan had only one woollen mill. Now we have 70 woollen textile mills which are located at Quaid Abad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Laranspur, Sahiwal, Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Bannu and Nowshera Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. At he time of independence we had 17 textile industries and now we have 503 industries which are located at Faisalabad, Karachi, Multan, Hyderabad and Lahore.
and Engineering works. This factory was establised by PIDC. Now Pakistan is selling ships and boats abroad. In all the five year plans, this industry is given much importance.
10. Woolen and Worsted Textile Industry
There are 16 woolen mills in Pakistan. These are located at Karachi, Nowshera, Lawrencepur, Quaidabad and Hamai. This industry is not only meeting the worsted and woolen yam requirements of the country, but it is also exporting a large quantity of worsted cloth and carpets to foreign countries.
11. Cigarette Industry
At present 22 factories are producing cigarettes and Biri. Our country is self sufficient in the production of cigarettes. The raw tobacco used in the manufacturing of cigarettes is produced domestically. During the year 2001-02, 55,318 million cigarettes were produced in the country.
Besides these, Pakistan has a lot of cottage and large industries in different fields like electronic industries, heavy industries, software companies, tobacco industries, steel mills, oil refinery industries, weapon, paper industries and a lot of more industries situated in different areas of Pakistan. All of these are responsible for growing the economy of the country and most of the earning is dependent upon these industries.
Unfortunately our country is suffering a lot of problems related to the industrial sector due to which our industry is not growing well and properly unlike other developing countries. Our industrial sector is about jammed in comparison with the other Asian and European countries because we are not producing
