-Hope for the characters in the novel

-Anton Chigurh: lives without rules, hope to kill Llewelyn Moss who has the money.

-Llewelyn Moss: hope to get away from assassins (Chigurh), and Mexican gangs. Hopes meet is wife Carla Jeans after running away with money.

-Sheriff Bell: hope to protect Llewelyn and catch Chigurh. However, his real emotion wants him to stay away from Chigurh and the whole incident so he can save himself.

1) Anton Chigurh: a bloodless killer who will kill anyone to catch Llewelyn and retrieve the money. He does not live by the rule. In No Country for Old Men, Chigurh is a character who is not old or new to the society, but a person who just does not belong in any society and who wants to be free.

2) Llewelyn Moss: a welder who lives a normal life. After finding the drug money, he decides to take off with his wife to other city and live a different life. However, his choice has caused him to be a runner until his death. The Mexican gangs and an assassin went after him and Moss did not give up the money and later he is killed. Moss that is not old or young, just at his middle age represents a normal person who does not want to get off his boring life but fit in the society.

3) Sheriff Bell: The old man in the novel who wants to be cut out of the society. He also does not want to face the reality. The incident relating to the drug dealing and the money makes Bell to be afraid of the world in the novel. Bell could not believe how the world has become so dangerous and out of control.
