Lord of the Flies - Strongest Character

While reading Lord of the Flies, the character that I think possessed the greatest strength was Piggy. He might not have been the island leader, i.e., Ralph, or even helped hunt like Jack or the rest of the choirboys, but Piggy possessed an inner strength. He was the voice of reason when it was needed the most.

Piggy was very smart, and had many brilliant ideas, but the others never took the time to listen to them. Whenever he tried to speak he would be put down or tell him to shut up. I think that if they had just listened to Piggy, life would have been drastically different on the island. Even though he was treated so unfairly, he always had something to contribute. However, his opinions were almost never taken into consideration.

He would always remind Ralph why the fire needed to be lit, even though Ralph was the one always stressing it. Ralph at one point almost got sucked into the savage way of life on the island, and Piggy brought him back to reality. While the others were playing games, hunting, fighting, or scared half to death, Piggy was the one who always had the sense to bring back the big picture. They needed to get off the island, and I think Piggy was the reason havoc didn't develop as fast as it could have.
