How to manage your stress

Today I am going to talk to you about stress, and stress factors. I am also going to discuss some stress management tools.

Introduction

Stress is one of the major causes of illness in our fast paced society. Stress is triggered by numerous factors including diet, death, social situation, attitude and financial problems. Stress management may be achieved through a healthy lifestyle, prescription drugs, professional therapy, prayer, and meditation.

Transition

1.) There two types of stress, physical and emotional.

a) Physical stress is a cause and effect reaction to the body.

i) It can be caused by pain from an accident or surgery.

(1) Physical symptoms are nausea, dizziness, chest pain, loss of sex drive, and frequent colds.

ii) Physical stress often develops into emotional stress.

(1) It can cause anger, sadness and fear.

b) According to MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia which was updated on Oct. 10/23/2012, "Emotional stress usually occurs in situations that people consider difficult or challenging."

i) Things like work, school and relationships are major factors in emotional stress.

(1) Symptoms of emotional stress are moodiness, irritability, agitation, loneliness, and depression.

Transition

2.) As noted on helpguide.org which was last updated on Feb 2013, Stress factors are classified as internal and external categories.

a) Internal stressors are self-induced.

i) These stressors include: negativity, perfectionism, unrealistic expectations, and lack of conviction.

b) External stressors are the result of everyday life.

i) These stressors include: financial problems, family, work, life changes, and relationship difficulties.

Transition

3.) According to American Institute of Stress.org that I researched last week, I quote "Just as stress is different for each of us there is no stress reduction strategy that is a panacea."
