Huey Long was born In Winnfield, Louisiana on August 30, 1893. Huey was the seventh out of nine children. His parents were Caledonia Tison Long and Huey Pierce Long, Sr. They were livestock farmers. The Long family lived in poverty. The town they lived in was a poor town. In Winnfield, people could only work and did not really have much time for hanging out. People relied on each other to get things done. Education also was not a big deal to them. The Long's on the other hand thought that education was very important. They were also very religious. Huey liked to explore as a child. He learned to walk at a very early age. Unlike most boys in Winnfield, he liked reading and hated livestock.

In 1932, in the midst of the Great Depression, Huey Long easily beat Senator Joseph E. Ransdell for the Senate. The biggest part of his time as senator was his Share Our Wealth program. The slogan, a lot like his Governor slogan, was Every Man a King. The Share Our Wealth program brought a lot of reforms. It was meant to equal out American's wealth fairly. He capped personal fortunes at $50 million and the rest of the money would be distributed to programs that helped people in poverty. People began to state that he was a socialist and a communist. He would then create another newspaper called The American Progress and give speeches to counter the slander. This got popular with Americans and Huey Long was again crowned, Kingfish.

After years, Huey Long was stilled being bother by arsons, death threats, and even drive-by shootings on his house. He had to surround himself with armed security guards. Some of Huey Long's people overheard a meeting about a plot to have Huey Long assassinated. While Huey was at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge, a man named Dr. Weiss shot him in the stomach. Dr. Weiss was killed immediately. Huey died while he was in the hospital on September 10, 1935. His final words were, "God, don't let me die. I have so much to do." He planned on running for president 1936.
