Human Resource has already undergone a significant transformation. During two decades back, HR was considered to do only administration related work. Now the trends have changed. With the coming of international players in Indian soils, HR has gained prominent position in the organization. It is now considered to be one of the most important departments of the organization. More than just a department, HR is believed to represent the role of a facilitator among different departments. HR does the work of an operations manager by supplying the right amount of resource at the required time and making use of all resources efficiently and effectively. HR does the work of a finance manger by sticking to the budget and trying not to exceed the budget. HR also does the work of a marketing manager by selling the company to potential candidates in the external world and roping them into the organization. It also involves integrating the work done by different departments.
The year 2020 will revolutionize the way organizations exist and operate. Especially the human resources department will have extra-ordinary changes. Some of the routine functions of HR like training, maintenance of records, exit interview and other such operational functions will be outsourced while some of the strategic activities like decision making, performance management, succession planning will be retained by the department specific to the organization. Employee Engagement, Competence Mapping, Talent Retention will be some of the functions that will gain prominence in the next decade. The human resources department or the talent management will be required to cater to employees of diverse ethnic background, workforce of different age group, today's workforce (which is Gen-X), Gen-Y and Gen-Z. Their work will involve more of creativity and innovation. The greatest challenge will be in handling all the generations of workforce Gen-X in the senior management; Gen-Y in the middle management and Gen-Z in the lower or entry level at the same time. Technology will take a stupendous growth and most of the screenings will happen even before the candidate's resume gives a picture about him/her and enables him/her to take interview. HR will also make use of organization intranet portals and other social networking platforms to track the emotional levels and moods of employees. The existing systems will be replaced by those that provide challenging at the same nurturing environment for the young talents to thrive upon.
The organization culture will have more of its presence felt in adhocracy and market, reducing its impact in hierarchy. Or in other words, the pattern of hierarchy can also become extinct. The organization culture would have become more informal and employee-friendly.
