1. Describe the importance of employee benefits as a strategic component of fulfilling the goals of HRM.
It is very important to make sure employees are happy. It is going to have them do a better job at work and want to work for the company. It fulfills the goals of hrm because it keeps the turnover rates low and the complaints low. If you are a company that gives nothing but the required benefits than your employees may be content but it won't give them a reason to stay with you instead of going something else if a better opportunity comes along. Also moral has to be very good in the company to keep the employees happy. You can't have a company where moral is down you treat your employees like crap and then expect them to perform well for you, especially if you aren't paying them well. HRMs biggest goal is to keep everyone happy and if the employees are happy than they are happy and the bosses are happy which makes the company run better and it helps to make sure that's a company to stay with.
2. Explain how Genentech and Zappos are using employee benefits as a motivating tool.
They make it a fun place to go to work at. No one wants to dread getting up every morning to go to their jobs where they know they are just going to be beaten over the head for things they could have done better. These companies encourage their employees to better no tell them they are not doing good enough. They also make sure you have everything you need to work and make your work life happy. Sometimes days are tough having fun things to do after work defiantly boost the moral of the employees in the company.
3. Do you believe the incentive benefits such as those offered at Genentech and Zappos can be used in other organizations? Why or Why Not?
I do think that they would work in other organizations. I was watching a show on the travel channel about best places to work and there are so many companies that do everything to make their employees happy. These people know the happier their employees are the harder they are going to work. Of course you will have people that will take advantage of the benefits and they will not last very long in the company but for the most part these benefits will work.
