When I think of the word character, I see it as the basis and core for the types of decisions we make that take us through life. After searching for some time, I finally decided upon the scripture verse "Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out" (Proverbs 11:3, English Standard Version) to help explain that view. I interpret this verse as it would pertain to a Firm by meaning if they always are truthful and quality seeking in their business approaches, they will be awarded the prize of a successful and long-lasting career. On the other hand, if they choose to take unethical paths to gain success, those decisions will be brought to light at some point and ultimately cost them a long lasting future. In my opinion, this means a Firm choosing to base their operations with keeping themselves associated with only good character and staying focused on ethical practices would always gain more in the end compared to those who went down the wrong path.

In the very early stages of creating the structure and building blocks for the Firm, they could implement good character practices by setting out to hire only employees with backgrounds that show good character behavior. As the Firm continues to grow they should always make their mission to only promote examples of quality and good value based decisions and show how those decisions led to the success of the Firm itself. An easy way to grasp the idea of would ultimately be for the Firm to build their core completely on the basis of always striving to be aligned with good character decisions and choices. I do understand constantly monitoring each and every facet of the Firm to ensure everyone is adhering to these values would be extremely difficult. However, if they take the time and effort to do this every chance they can, they will only help create a successful business in every way imaginable.

I grew up being told that everyone leads by example, but it is also natural for people to want proof that those examples turn out to be worth it in the end. If people are shown that choosing paths of wrong doing only lead to destruction when all is said and done, they would be less likely to make that choice to begin with. A Firm who chooses to always take the high road under all circumstances would always be able to give those types of examples to their employees, business partners, and even customers by simply telling the story of how they came to be and also how they will continue to be in the future. At the end of the day, we all tend to want to be part of something that is based on good, following the words of this particular verse would guarantee that to be truthful.
