The movie "invasion of the body snatchers" shows similarities to communism. In the movie DR. Kaufman, the police officers, phone operator/press, and jack were taken over because people trusted them and they all work for some sort of government that is also why they tried so hard to get dr. binell. In a communistic environment the government controls everything that is why those people were changed first. Businesses started to close down such as the restaurant and vegetable stand. in a communist country the government control's all businesses. Another thing from the movie is that all the people in the pods represent the original living person except they did not have emotions witch is propaganda for communism.
Communists are portrayed in the movie as emotionless people who don't care for anyone or anything. People in the 40's and 50's would say they know who the communists are when there are no big ways to tell if someone is communist or not. A way to tell if someone is communist is their views on the government and the way things are being ran. People also thought of communism as a disease not as a form of government. The movie uses a lot of communist and cold war propaganda. propaganda means: "2: The spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person".
Some communist propaganda in the movie is: the pod people, emotionless, government officials taken over first, businesses going out of business, people doing what ever the government officials tell them. Some of the things they said are they are still the same person just with an added knowledge witch came from the aliens. That is a metaphor of showing communist ideas. The alien invasion represents a communist invasion. When the pods are being handed out to the people to get shipped to other towns and city's shows how communism can spread. The movie shows cold war propaganda also. The name "body snatchers" in the title is a metaphor for the threat of lost individuality witch was associated with communism in the cold war.
The movie did a good job showing how fast communism can spread and how fast it can destroy the people. It also did a good job showing how communism can change peoples lives and how they are ran.
