Today was the day, the day I was going to propose to my girlfriend. I kept telling myself that to make sure I went through with it. I had everything planned, every detail of every moment. From when I was going to pick up Amy, my girlfriend, to what table we would sit at, to what we would eat for dinner, to how I planned on proposing to her. It was going to be the happiest day of my life. The night started out perfectly, the way I had wanted it to. I picked Amy up and she looked beautiful. Looking at her I felt I was the luckiest man in the world.

As we arrived at "la bLuE", I handed my keys and a 10 to the valet who seemed pretty young and was probably still in college. As we entered the double doors and walked into the mildly chilled restaurant which was a relief from the 80 degree weather outside. The hostess, a beautiful early 20 something woman which has become a staple of every nice restaurant, told us that there was a mix up and our table was given away to another couple. I was pretty upset about this because I had called weeks in advance to let them know how special this night was going to be. We were told it would be a 20 minutes before we could be seated.. I was pretty upset about that and I let them know it too. We waited for a table to free up at the long S shaped bar. The bar was a retro S-shaped with black and neon lights behind the long mirrors that were hanging on the walls. It had a modernish retro yet elegant feel to it. As soon as we sat down the bartender was there to greet us. Having come here many times before the bartender recognized us and before we could even order he said its going to a grey goose cosmopolitan and a absolute gimlet correct. We were pretty amazed that he could remember our drinks with the number of people he serves daily. I liked my gimlet and the cosmopolitan that Amy ordered was the best in the city the way she put it. The lighting wasn't bright but not to dark also it really helped set the atmosphere in the lounge/ bar area. The atmosphere with their list of cocktails that are made to absolute perfection make their lounge a must to go place for happy hour, meetings or a night out with friends.

Before we knew it almost forty minutes had passed by and the hostess came up to us and apologized for the wait and took us to our table. When I got back to our table Blake, the manager, was there waiting for us. He again apologized for the mix up and gave us a bottle of Joseph Phelps Insignia 2007 which was a $200 dollar bottle of wine on the house. As he walked away, after opening and pouring a glass for us, he whispered good luck to me with a smile. We were really excited by this because we had always wanted to try this particular bottle but it was always out of our price range. As Blake left our waiter come by we already knew what we were going to get so we told him quickly because I was itching to try this Phelps. Before I even tasted it I smelled it the blackberry's, blueberry's, and plums. As I had the 2007 Phelps I was right I tasted blackberry's, blueberry's, the aromatic plums but I also tasted a flavor I didn't expect and that was chocolate. All the flavors worked well of each other , they were concentrated and well balanced. That's one thing I always liked about this place they treated us very well.

We started our meal with Maine Lobster Tortellini with black trumpet mushrooms, chervil, and caramelized sun-choke cream. This was a great way to start the night the lobster was cooked perfectly. I really loved the sun choke cream which was sweet but not to sweet with a bit of nuttiness, I thought it made the dish. The black trumpet mushrooms were
