While eating locally grown foods provide many opportunities, it can also have several downfalls- not only for the locals in the community, but the economy around the world. It may be difficult to pick and choose foods that are grown within a one-hundred mile radius, but it also may be worth it, not only for ourselves but to our community as a whole. Our economy is constantly striving to provide jobs around the world. This globalization of the food supply has serious consequences for the environment, our health, and our communities. & Our food now travels an average of one thousand five hundred miles before ending up on our plates. The money that is needed to send that produce and food that far can be towards other economic issue . Growing local food and selling it provides several jobs within the community howeverdis a for the farmers around the globe. Having "access to healthy, fresh food at affordable prices" (Source F) can allow communities to consume the nutrition that is needed but also lead healthy lifestyles at an affordable cost. On the other hand, if our communities only ate locally grown food3 e middle-men tkfat gt the food to our communities would be out a job and the farmers would not sell as much produce to make a profit.

Foodborne illness is a general term often used to describe a disease or illness caused by eating contaminated foods or drinks. There are several ways to spread these diseases and to prevent ther have to use many precautions. There is much more diversity when eat globally but there is also a downfall to that. "Food with less distance to travel from farm to plate has less susceptibility to harmful contamination" (Source A) because the food goes through less processes and procedures to get to our local stores. Our communities make every effort in becoming healthy and staying healthy. Eating locally can give us the recommended nutrition we need. But why do people push so hard to be locavores when we get the exact same food from other countries with the same nutrients but with more diversity? It could be people think global producers add preservatives to make the food last longer. Buying food from the local grocery store may not last as long as locally grown food but it is the exact same food.

Transporting foods across America into grocery stores may cost a lot, however; producing foods locally costs a lot to. They can also charge more because it's "locally grown".

People tend to have a better feeling about locally grown food because it sounds healthier.

Globally grown food can "reduce energy demands for out-of-season" (Source MINN) products, such as strawberries, because they go out of season but our local grocery stores can get them from out of state. The grocery store is always available for use during store hours, which is daily. On the other hand, people can only buy locally grown
