The date 4/13/2008, the time, sometime that evening, and in the TD Bank North Garden, for ESPN Gary Thorn will speak these words that gave thousands of fans reassurance. "Thomas has left for the Boston bench, the bruins are going to go on a power play six on five, Chambers looks wide, lugs it through to Whitman, back to Savard, Savard takes a drive and, SCORE! Marc Savard out from the Bruins for two months, in his first game back, has saved them from elimination."

On July seventeenth 1977, in Ottawa Ontario, Marc Savard was born. A little boy from Ottawa became one of the biggest names in the NHL. Marc had always played hockey as a child, and he got his big start during his year on the Oshawa Generals in the OHL during his 1996-97 career.

There he was noticed by an NHL scout, and drafted to the New York Rangers. Sadly they gave him a trail season on the Hartford Wolf Pack (currently the Connecticut Whale) as the starting center. Savard helped put the Wolf Pack in first place in the AHL giving them a chance at the Calder Cup (the Stanley Cup of the AHL). But only after four months, Savard was sent back up to play for the Rangers and was placed on the 3rd line as center. Unfortunately for both of those seasons, The Rangers did not make it to the playoffs.

In his 99-2000 careers, he was sent to play for the Calgary Flames. Sadly, in the four years he played for Calgary they did not once make it to the playoffs. Then Savard was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers. Marc lost a lot of his edge in his years with the Thrashers. Oddly enough he went to Sweden to play for the Swedish Hockey League. There Savard was faced with a challenge, win when you are down or give up. He chose to win.

Now Savard went back to the Thrashers, and they were one game off from the playoffs. Not only that but he had his best goals on average in years that season. That's why next year he was picked up by the Boston Bruins. Now for two long years the Bruins still were just that little bit off from the play offs. It wasn't until the 08-09 series did Savard show his charisma and power on the Bruins.

They made it all the way to round 8 and were knocked out by their rivals the Montreal Canadians. But through it all Savard had survived two grade two concussions during that whole season, a torn bicep, and a grade 1 concussion to get that far and still keep up his score record. This is a man who deserves to be admired. This is a man who put his team, his family, above all else.

His dedication and perseverance is a force to be reckoned with and respected. He not only helped himself but the rookies that were in his position
