Summary/Overview

This module facilitates you to focus on the challenges involved in

ethically managing organizations, be they in business or non- business sectors including government organizations and NGOs. The module helps you to acquire the knowledge that is vital in managing organizations in an ethical context.

Aims

  • to help you in understanding various theories of ethical decision making
  • to help you in understanding the need of ethics in the global environment in which the organizations are functioning
  • to facilitate the integration of ethics – in work-place management, marketing, accounting and finance, strategy etc. - towards the purpose of ethical  growth of a  business
  • to help you understand the global perspectives of CSR, the corporate social responsiveness, corporate citizenship and sustainability

To develop conceptual skills of ethical

theories and ethical decision making in the contest of organizational functioning.

Understanding  of  the  process  of  taking  ethical

decisions in the face of confronting ethical dilemmas at all levels of organizations- evidenced in case studies and class room discussion

To interpret and evaluate the effects of

globalization  on  value  systems  and morals in the organizations

Development   and   understanding  of  corporate

frauds, scams and the degrading environment and resources - evidenced in class room discussions and the case study

To      be     able     to      develop      a

comprehensive  idea  of  corporate social responsibility in the interest of sustainability of planet for future generations.

Critical        evaluation        of        CSR        activities        of

organization in a global context - evidenced in case studies and discussions


Approach to Learning

The teaching methods will consist of formal lectures, case study

analysis, practical workshops and discussion groups. Experts and practitioners will be invited to participate in the course as guest lecturers.

Students will work at their own to identify and assess market flaws and deceptions in the nature of frauds, scams, work place misbehavior, stakeholder activities and the like and then trying to find alternate ideas aiming at developing ethical practices and decisions for the sustainability of the planet and preserving the eco systems.

As is appropriate at Masters’ level, students will also be expected to read beyond texts assigned, and to identify on their own further sources of information for complementing their studies.

Assessment Strategy

Participants will develop an ethical mindset and demonstrate it by contributing research articles on ethics, sustainability and CSR in Indian and global context. They will also produce literature review (in pairs) which will allow them to dig into the necessary text and it will develop their academic diligence and critical analysis in putting together an original review of contemporary and emerging knowledge of a specialized area in Organizational Ethics and CSR.
