Media vs. Reading
Things have changed so much since I was a kid. I can remember all gathering in the library to watch the Challenger take off and also to witness that fateful day. Book reports were the greatest thing although everyone hated to do them, as you had to read a book in order to get the report done. It was the teacher's way of making you read a book. As time grew and I got older I started to want to read books more as my mind grew with imagination and I took more interest in different types of books. I learned the habit to read from my grandmother who had bookshelves and bookshelves of books that she had read, as TV wasn't the best option back in her day. Fast forward to the present day although there are still plenty of books to read you are losing more and more bookstores due to the electronic realm of life. Everything seems to be in some sort of electronic version nowadays. I have even made the switch to the electronic version, as it just seems to be easier to take with you. Gone are the days of lugging books around as such things as a Kindle or a Nook can store huge libraries of books at a time. I do have a certain pick when it comes to hardcovers in books though. Then comes into play with schoolbooks, as the electronic version is not an option for me but that is personal preference.
In come the media with TV channels galore and Internet for everything. Don't get me wrong the Internet is a wonderful thing and I can't remember what it was like before we had Internet but it has made things severely easier on many different aspects. From school knowledge to just surfing around or to shopping online, the Internet has changed to way of the world, as we know it. Instead of picking up a book you can just use the Internet to get the basics of anything book or any project that you may want to know about. TV channels seem to be growing and along with more things to watch on TV, then the less chance you will have to put your mind to work or to put yourself in that make believe world and step out of reality for an hour or two. That one chance to escape everything and be someone you never thought you could be. As the world keeps growing, technology will keep getting better and soon enough old school print books will be extinct and then what will we have to rely on.
