My eye opening experience was when we went to Pennsylvania to visit our Amish friends. What opened my eyes about that experience were the differences between the Amish and us. They have many differences from us. In this personal narrative I am only going to share three of those differences though. One big difference is that the Amish wear different clothes than we do. We buy most of our clothes and wear different types of pants, shorts, shirts and dresses; they only wear overalls, shirts, Amish hats, bonnets, and dresses that they make themselves. That is one of the three differences that I am going to share. Another big difference is that the Amish don't have electricity. So this means that they don't have lights, TV, air condition, washing machines or dryers. Instead they use kerosene lanterns for light when it gets dark, where we use electricity for our lights. They also wash their clothes in a washtub with their hands and hang them up on a line to dry, where we use a washing machine and dryer most of the time. That is the second big difference. The last big difference that I am going to talk about is that the Amish don't have cars. Instead they use a horse and buggy to go places. They also walk to go places. Sometimes if they need to go a long distance and they can't take their horse and buggy they pay someone to drive them from place to place, so I guess you could say they rent a van and driver. Though most of the time they either walk or use their horse and buggy. This is the last big difference I am going to talk about in my writing although there are many more that I could tell you about. This is my eye opening experience. The Amish really opened my eyes. I used to think that everybody was the same until I met our Amish friends. They have taught me one big lesson since we became friends. Never judge a book by its cover. This concludes my personal narrative.
