Organizational Behavior in the Workplace
The implementation of organizational behavior principles in the workplace is of critical importance in the success or failure of the organization. At the core of any organization are its employees, and the success of the organization often depends on the employees. Companies are looking for individuals who are collaborative because they are willing to share ideas and knowledge and work with others within the organization. Another desire is employees who are critical thinkers. These individuals use logic and reasoning to develop theory and test hypothesis as to the best solution for company issues, concerns and problems. Also of importance are individuals who are active listeners. These individuals are so important because they give their full attention and understand the detail when others are voicing their concerns or providing opinions and suggestions. Good judgment and decision making are other qualities that employers are looking for in their employees. These individuals tend to make good decisions and think about the interest of the organization before jumping to conclusions.
Job Skills and Performance
An employee’s skill set assures management that they are capable of completing the task hired for and how to effectively perform daily job tasks. Although employee development uses existing skill set, an individual who is collaborative, critical thinking, an active listener and able to use good judgment and decision making is able to develop their skills and expand knowledge and as a result has improved job performance. These skills help individuals to perform their job more efficiently and more effectively. Improved skill sets not only benefit the company but also themselves. Improved skill sets lead to improved performance which can in turn lead to advancement within an organization.
Organizational Behavior and Decision-Making and Problem-Solving
The text compares problem solving in Organizational Behavior to taking a journey. This is done by defining the problem. Once the problem has been recognized, hopefully individuals are proactive about this step and don’t wait until there is a problem to react, a logical solution can begin to be developed. Next, Organizational Behavior concepts and theories are used to identify causes. This makes it possible to identify appropriate causes and suitable responses. Finally, recommendations can be made and action can be taken.
