Midwest Rattled by Monster Tornadoes;

On May 22, 2011 a deadly EF-5 Tornado ripped through Joplin, Missouri, the strongest classification, with winds ranging above 200 mph. That makes this the deadliest year for tornadoes since 1950. More than 900 people were injured. The residents of Joplin had warnings just days before the tornado would be on top of their city. On Sunday, May 22 they had only 24 minutes to escape the twister after a warning was first issued to take shelter. After the deadly tornado struck, it destroyed houses, buildings, and all neighborhoods, flattened. St. Johns Regional Medical Center was heavily damaged; windows and the exterior walls damaged, and the upper floors were destroyed. Many people have been reported to have been trapped in destroyed houses, cars and buildings. The deadly tornado destroyed most of Joplin, Missouri. Rescue workers have been working around the clock to find trapped victims that were crying out for help. Many people lost their lives that day victim's death toll stood at 143 and many people still unaccounted for. Many families have reported their family members missing. The American Red Cross had opened shelters in Missouri, and Minnesota for the people in Joplin who were left homeless by the massive tornado. Week by week Residents of Joplin pick up pieces of damaged houses, buildings, and cars. On Memorial Day weekend President Obama visited Joplin, Mo. He spoke at the memorial services. He comforted the victims of the devastating tornado. Honoring those who lost their lives to the destructive tornado.

Now, the resident of Missouri, face many task, one is the planning of funerals for friends, family. Another is the clean up of the devastation and destruction of buildings, homes, schools, and hospitals. What is beautiful about America is that in times of distress, everyone unites to help these victims.
