Mission: a loaf of bread in every arm.
Strategy: for a new franchise like panera is not easy to be successful within a very short time. But their strategy was to understand the long term trends at play and getting the organization ready to respond to it. They were very careful in terms of responding according to the need of the customers. That's why before customers starts complaining about trans fat panera bread voluntarily eliminate it from the menu. So their strategy is hitting the bulls' eye.
Their strategy is to watch and carefully time market trends and orient the company toward innovating to fulfill consumers. Operating in ways that surpass competition, by watching market trends to make improvements to the company as a whole.

Open system model: An open system is a system which constantly interacts with its environment. In business, the open systems model focuses on the impact of external factors in an organization.
An open system is a system that regularly exchanges feedback with its external environment. Open systems are systems, of course, so inputs, processes, outputs, goals, assessment and evaluation, and learning are all important. Aspects that are critically important to open systems include the boundaries, external environment and equifinality. Healthy organizations regularly try to understand their environments through use of environmental scanning, market research and evaluations. These organizations often try to influence their external environment, as well, for example, through use of public relations, advertising and promotions, lobbying and advocacy, and educating industry and local leaders.
