My personal philosophy of nursing is knowledge based. Knowledge acquired through

my nursing experiences, based on self-discovery, observation, experimental, and insightfulness

received directly from Jesus Christ my Lord. Knowledge is gained through the

experiences of trial and errors within my life. Then there is also knowledge I acquire observing

the experiences of other people. The knowledge to experience the person we provide

care and inner healing process (Watson, 2008). Life is learning and learning is continuous

throughout each individual's life cycle. As my knowledge increases, my personal philosophy

grows and becomes intricate.

Who I am as a person characterizes my personal philosophy in nursing. The capstone in

my personal philosophy is we are all God's children. As the children of the most High God,

each human being should be treated with respect and dignity. My introduction to Maslow's

hierarchy help me to understand the basic needs of each individual. These basic physiological

needs include oxygen, food, water, maintaining body temperature to sustain life, human

potential and self-actualization (Maslow, 1943). My goal in nursing is to use my knowledge,

competence and skill set toward assisting patients in receiving quality care, restoration of health,

wellness and the assistance with a peaceful life transition during end-of-life process.

The nursing profession plays an important role in giving the best quality care to the

patients we serve. I am accountable in treating all our clients with respect and dignity.

As an advocate, educator, and counselor who listens to my patients and their family members.

My role is to fulfill the healthcare needs of my patient and family. To serve all my patients

with compassion, kindness, competence and efficiency. My assistance for my patients will

facilitate their restoration back to wellness and health.

My view of the nursing profession was shaped by professionalism I observed in

healthcare. I viewed nurses to be competent, professional, respectable and knowledgeable. In

healthcare I feel nurses are extremely" knowledgeable and one of the largest groups in

healthcare" (Hebda & Czar, P. 7). To me nurses are essential in healthcare to cure, care and

promote health.
