‘You don’t get what you deserve you get what you negotiate’. Indicate whether you agree or disagree with this statement and explain your answer

We agree with this statement because we believe that the best way to get what you deserve is to negotiate for it. As much as we would like to believe that the world is fair and perfect it isn’t and without the knowledge or ability to ask for more, you will be given a default of less. We all negotiate on a daily basis because negotiation is a basic means of getting what it is that you want. It involves a back and forth communication designed to reach an agreement when you have some interests that are shared between you and the other party as well as other interests that are opposed, as noted by Fisher and Ury (1991).

We unknowingly negotiate everyday, whether it is in deciding what movie you and a friend will be watching or even what type of food you will be eating. It is about stating what you want and looking out for your own interests. In the business, negotiating is even more important because employers want the best employees at the lowest prices possible while the employees want the best jobs with the highest rewards possible, both financial and remuneration packages. You don’t get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate because offers are often constructed on the assumption that negotiation will occur. When in a job hunt you feel somewhat powerless but once an offer is made, the power balance shifts in your favour, and this is when you can get what you want but only by negotiation. (Golde, 1999).

In the everyday dealings of the business world you must become adept at negotiating to be successful and profitable. For example, supplier also have the same goals as you of being profitable and due to no human trait, not even greediness, they will automatically want to charge you as a high a price as possible even if you deserve to pay less. We agree with this statement because sometimes, you may even know the full scope of what it is you deserve making it very easy for you to be take advantage of, bacause as famously said by Karass, in business as in life, you don’t get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate
