Online College or Traditional College

Making the decision to attend college online or in a traditional college environment has become a very common question. This question is more common among young adults and adults who are returning back to school and have families or full time jobs. Online and traditional colleges have their differences which range tuition, communication, and flexibility of time. But, also have likes that can be the type of degree programs, accreditations, and quality teachers. Both, online and traditional colleges can provide a person with the education they need to succeed life and career.

Online learning has become more popular and desirable throughout the years; especially among young adults and adults with families and full time jobs. Online learning comes with flexibility of time which a person may not have when attending a traditional college. Having flexibility of time allows a person who is attending college online to work full time, have time to spend with their family, and do other errands without the pressure of feeling rushed. While attending college online a person will not have face to face communication with teachers and peers like when attending a traditional college. Communication for students attending college is done by email, video chats, and message boards which can sometimes cause misunderstandings among teachers and students. Also, the cost of tuition is a big difference between online and traditional colleges. Tuition is normally higher at an online college than a traditional college because most are out of state or private. Another difference is there is no direct supervision. With no direct supervision a student has no one there to help them directly with problems, no one to make sure they stay focused, or make sure they don't cheat it is left up to the student to do right.

Making the decision to attend a traditional college is more popular among high school graduates and those who are big on family traditions. A traditional college offers students face to face communication with teacher and peers unlike online colleges. Having the advantage of speaking with their teachers can help the student to obtain more accurate information, make them more confident in their work, give the opportunity to have the teacher help with assignments when they have a problem, and be social with peers. Traditional colleges also offer lower tuition unlike online college. Tuition is lower for traditional college because most a state funded and is in the state with the student lives.
