Organizational Design Paper
Organizational Design paper deals with the design of the organization and the internal and external factors that defines it in terms of its size, organizational structure and process . Internal and external factors allow necessary changes to be made by the manager. Manager will have to meet the demands of these factors and organizational accountability. The factors necessitate the changes in policies. With changing demands of healthcare, new regulatory agencies coming up so the standards of patient care are set and frauds are curtailed.
Internal and external factors that have defined and shaped up the organization
Factors that influence the organization structure consist of demographic and economic forces, technological advances, increased global competition, emphasis on quality, consumer demands for increased efficiency ( self directed work teams) and government policy changes.
Internal factors
Internal factors that affect the organization are the staff turnover. Because of changes in the management and improper communication between the new officer and the employees, will result in some of the employees leaving the jobs and also some will transfer to other departments within the organization. Then higher level management will assess the staff turnover issues , hire new employees and train them.
Emphasis on quality
Emphasis on quality- Quality control and operational effectiveness will be important in healthcare organization. The manager does assessment, surveys and obtains feedback from the employees. Timely communication between the manager and the employees will result in smooth transition into quality control programs. If problems are exits then successful implementation can be affected.
Demographic factors
Demographic factors- The location of the company can affect the processes. A location close to a busy area will result in increased flow of patients thereby longer wait time. There by need more staff and equipment to meet the needs of the customers in timely manner.. Manager has to assess the flow and make necessary changes to meet the needs of the patients.
Technological advances
Technological advances- New trends in technology and the switch from paper charts to electronic medical records as made the role of manager even more tedious. Manager complies with Health Information technology for economic and clinical health Act. There is necessity to employ new personnel to train in health informatics. A separate IT department is set up to handle electronic data. Electronic charting and billing data monitored by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
External factors
Joint commission on Accreditation of healthcare organization
Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare organization is the regulatory agency for this organization. Hospital management has to deal with unannounced site visits by Joint commission surveyors every 3 years. Survey addresses care of the environment, infection prevention and control, health information management, adherence to patient safety goals. List performance quality measures by the Joint Commission, and abide by the rules. According to Joint Commission (2011) National patient safety goals deal with identification of patients name and age correctly, improving staff communication, safe use of medicines, preventing infection and identifying patient
