Organizing is assembling and coordinating the human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals. (Bateman, 20) General Electric has developed a great system of organizing their massive company into different areas that create an excellent set of checks and balances. GE has made great advancements in being able to manage their human resources and physical assets since the start of the company.
GE asses advances in human resources by providing meetings and planning for their managers. GE has a four-day program for their managers called Leadership, Innovation, and Growth. (LIG) It was the first time, in 2006, that every one of the senior managers were brought together to come up with new ideas. The company felt that they needed to bring everyone together to try to stay ahead of the competition. There were a few factors that helped the managers in their meetings. Team training sped up the rate at which the managers could change or come to an agreement on how to solve an issue. Managers were asked to look at hard barriers (organizational structure, capabilities, and resources) as well as soft barriers (how the members of the management team individually and collectively behave and spend their time). The challenge of balancing long and short term goals, as a manager, is addressed directly. The company provides new ideas of how leaders should look at their issues and how they should talk about these issues. This program has been developed so people would not just learn, but would be able to create a new consultant team to come to their solutions more quickly and efficiently. All these ideas were put in place so that the company could evolve more quickly. (How GE, 2009)

GE wanted new ideas and growth to be a huge part of everyday leadership in the managers. They did not want the managers to look at the individual numbers, structures, resources, capabilities, and deployment of resources. They wanted the managers to look at how everyone is individually and collectively led. (How GE, 2009)

Organizing your disposable assets to spend towards growth is an excellent way to stay ahead.
GE has structured their plans so they can restructure the infrastructure of their business. Rebuilding the company from the inside out is a good way to get rid of unnecessary expenses and costs. Having the proper management structure is an essential key and having a business that can run smoothly. The ideals of the leaders trickle down to their employees, if everything is set up properly.
