https://www.oxfam.org/en/countries/history-oxfam-international

Oxfam International was originally recognised and formed in 1995 by a group of independent non-governmental organizations. Their aim was to work together for greater impact on the international stage to reduce poverty and injustice.

HISTORY:[pic 1]

The name “Oxfam” comes from the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief, founded in Britain in the year of 1942. This ‘not for profit’ business campaigned for food supplies to be sent through an allied naval blockade to starving women and children in enemy-occupied Greece during the Second World War. As well as becoming a world leader in the delivery of emergency relief, Oxfam International implements long-term development packages in vulnerable communities. This business is part of a global movement, campaigning with others; for instance, to end unfair trade rules, demand better health, promote world peace, education services for all, and to battle with climate change.

Today, there are 18 active member organizations (countries) of the Oxfam International confederation. They are based in: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Ireland, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Quebec, Spain and the United States.

VISION, STRUCTURE, AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

[pic 2]

Ultimate aim/vision is to END world poverty…

This includes relief creativities capacity building for poverty-stricken regions, campaigning for policy change at both national and international levels, and providing support and relief in emergency situations i.e. the recent Japan earthquake. The organisational structure for Oxfam is controlled by the board of trustees/management which gives them responsibility over the organisation. The chief executive has the greatest span of control as they control service, finance and corporates the service which will fund-raises and publicises which they account back to the board of management. The organisation structure therefore represents patterns which decisions and activities are controlled.

Oxfam includes 12 trustees who are responsible in the law of the charity they are chosen because of their experience and skills which enables them to undertake the responsibilities of a large complex charity. This shows the type of ownership that Oxfam holds as it portrays a charitable trust/business where it set up to raise funds and supports other people for a good cause. Oxfam has a tactical plan that they plan for every 5 years. The objectives and aims for this year are to “envision a world in which people can influence the decisions that affect their lives, everyone can enjoy their rights and assume their responsibilities as active citizens and all human beings are valued and treated equally”. Oxfam has a limited liability meaning that the members of the company are liable for the company’s debts or liabilities as they are the major stakeholders.

Strategic aims and objectives- They want to be the world’s first organisation to reduce the likelihood of poverty…Oxfam works for trade justice, fair trade, education, aid, health, HIV/AIDS, conflict, campaigning and natural disasters, human rights, climate change and supporting children by educating them and providing food. All of these aims and objectives undergo a close inspection from the senior management team.  The senior management consists of the CEO (Mark Goldring), Deputy Chief Executive (Penny Lawrence) and many more!

Stakeholder can be described as a person, group or organization that has direct and indirect position in organization. It is affected by organization's rules, polices and decisions.

The current /CEO of Oxfam GB is Mark Goldring since 2013(stated previously).Volunteers they are the workers who help in building Oxfam's strength. Volunteering is a personal and they are known to be the only stakeholders of this business. Also they are known to be in all sectors as they provide basic raw materials i.e. seeds to farmers in third world countries which is then sold in their own ‘OXFAM’ shops as souvenirs or merchandise where customers will buy it at a high price.  Also by selling re-used items, Oxfam comes under all the sectors.
