Parker Earth Moving Company: Session 4
In an effort to improve Parker Earth Moving Company the following issues will be addressed; how technologies are currently used in operations management, the evolution of information technology in operation management. Also, the technologies that used to be available and what are available now, potential problems that managers will experience adapting to new technology and recommendations for PEMC to improve their business. How technologies are currently used in operations management Parker Earth Moving Company has failed to improve and keep up with future technologies and adapt to recent innovations in information technology. Team A finds that PEMC is several generations behind in information technology. Our first recommendation is that an IT department be formed with a group of managers to report to department heads. PEMC must endure the challenge of creating and adapting a system beneficial to operational processes. The task of building a viable Information Technology Department with a state-of-the-art system will be daunting. Nevertheless, it must be done. The new generation of information technology must be a fully integrated system from order entry to cash application. Information Technology has not also been a form of software or computer. In early history an abacus was seen as a form of Information Technology. Information Technology can be something simple that helps solve a problem or keep track of data. Every year the world of IT (Information Technology) is improving and making the ways of a business run smoothly. Today the most popular IT is the computer; the computer has many ways it can be used from accounting to keeping inventory.
Technology has improved in the past years. Now a company has communication at their fingertips. Email, cells phones, conference calls and more make It easier for a company to communicate with main office, customers, or vendors. Before email and cell phones communication took slower because everyone had to mail information. Even cell phones have enhanced over the past years. Also another part of technology is machinery that will double a job one employee can do. The machinery can also make the job safer. This can increase production. Anytime new technology is introduced everyone involved can be unsure of what to except. Manager's can have trouble because they did not get the proper training. Managers can also have trouble because employees may not want to accept it. This could also go back to not having proper training but not everyone will accept new technology. To many who have never experienced new technology on the job, it may be confusing and time consuming because it slows their job down. For an example to the person who never had the internet in school or even a class on it doing a simple task on it could be frustrating.
