[Attention grabber] Earth will soon reach its limit on natural resources, food and space to supporting life.

[Background Info] For decades now statics have shown that the world population is increasing rapidly. World population growth refers to an increased number of people living on the planet. The more people inhabiting the Earth means the needs for more energy and resources. Economists and environmentalists are strongly concerned that if that the growth of the world population continues to increase then humans might exhaust all resources and lead to breakdown of modern society.

[Issue's controversy] Yet, other individuals see more optimism in the increase of world populations. Some say population growth is helping to stabilize the world economy and helping to decrease poverty around the world. Major problems that an unsustainable world population brings are an increase in the demand of food and energy and needing more space for billions of people without destroying the planet. [Position Statement] The United States should offer more programs about family planning to citizens in order to help stabilize the growth of the world population for the benefit of future generations and saving Earth.

[Logical- Topic sentence] It is important to offer US citizens programs about family planning because the number of people in the world have dramatically increased to cause many issues such as exponential growth and little access to resources that are distributed around the world.

[Appeal #1] One reason why the United State must offer all citizens programs about family planning is because world population has increased to unsafe numbers for the planet.

[Evidence #1] According to the United Nations Population Division, the world population will likely increase by 2.5 billion over the next 43 years, creating an estimated 9.2 billion by 2050 (Friedman 65).

[Commentary] By offering family planning programs to citizens they will be aware that the world population is unstable because the numbers can easily increase by 7 billion in fifty years. Citizens can make an effort to help stabilize the population from reaching this huge number.

[Evidence #2] Today there are 6.7 billion people sharing the planet and expecting the population to be 9.2 billion in 2050; that would be a 40 to 45% increase in growth (Friedman 87).

[Commentary] World population is expected to increase by 40% to 45% by mid century. Family planning programs can teach citizens statistically that the number of people on Earth are increasing too fast. If this exponential growth continues humans may not have enough resources to support life.

[Appeal #2] Another reason why offering family planning programs are needed to help stabilize world population is because with a large population a resource such as clean drinking water is difficult to distribute.

[Evidence 1] People in many developing countries walk miles to get their water supply. Most the of the water they get is no better than raw sewage. About 1.1 billion people , which is 18 percent of the world's population, do not have clean drinking water (Loc).

[Commentary] Eighteen percent of our world population is not receiving drinkable water. Through offered family planning programs citizen can help lower the number in world population to be able to let that 18% clean drinkable water.

[Evidence 2] In China they have created a water project that rechannels vast rivers of water from the Yangtze basin to the thirsty north, over three pathways of nearly 1,000 miles each. The official price tag of $58 billion (Eckholm).

[Commentary] China is in need of sending water to major cities like Bejing and the north. A growing population means the demands of water is much more difficult to distribute. China is so concerned about their citizens that they are willing to spend $58 billion and more to give water to their people.

[Opposing view] Alternate solutions to reducing the growth of world population are laws against reproduction and encouraging abortions. In China, they created the most comprehensive population policy in the world called the One Child Policy. Soon after proclaiming this policy their fertility rate decreased to about 2.7 in 1979; in 1969 fertility rate was 6.0 (Fengying).

[Rebuttal] Although China's solution of the One Child Policy has shown to be effective, my solution of giving citizens family planning programs is better because their solution has proved to be flexible to give exceptions of granting families to have more children and by paying fines (Fengying). If families can still have more and more children then their policy would not be effective enough help world population.

[Concluding sentence] By educating citizens of the US in family planning we can help stabilize world population increase chances of distributing clean resources.

[Ethical- Topic Sentence] Another reason to help stabilize world population by offering citizens of the US family planning programs is because it is our obligation to act to reduce the amount of fossil fuels we put into the air because have have polluted it and we must create better ways to cultivate food.

[Appeal #1] Citizens of the United states should be offered programs about family planning because everyone around the world should be concerned about the amount of fossil fuels we pollute the planet with.

[Evidence 1] We are all aware of global temperatures rising, but we have yet to realize that humans activities like increased emissions of carbon dioxide, coal, oil and deforestation also play a huge roll in making earth an unsustainable place (Friedman).

[Commentary 1] Humans should realize that the more people living calls for a larger energy demand to support life. Programs about family planning can help citizen understand that the larger their family the more energy they need to survive. By burning fossil fuels and cutting away the land we are taking away the homes of other animals and contributing to global temperatures rising.

[Evidence 2] According to the United Nations Population Fund, "fasting-growing countries like China and India will contribute more than half of global CO2 emissions by 2050 " (Dea).

[Commentary 2] Most of the people on earth live in China and India. If we could just help decrease the use of emissions of carbon dioxide by population control then that is one step in saving earth and stabilizing the world population.

[Appeal 2] Another
