Advances in technology provided the population an abundance of food supply. However, with
the growth of the population the food production will become scarce once again. While the
scarcity is a known fact researchers have tried mass production of certain foods (EX: beef, pork
& milk) with immoral practices to make an abundance of food. This was done by using steroids
to quicken and fatten the growth of the animals, which led to human illnesses or even death. The
FDA is required to make sure whatever is consumed is researched and tested and proven healthy
to humans.
PETA quoted "Raising animals for food requires massive amounts of food, land and water
and contributes to animal suffering." Over 260 millions of U.S. forests have been cleared to grow
grain to feed animals. Livestock grazing is the number one reason that the plant species are
threatened and risks the chance of extinction. (PETA) Animals are inefficient for consumption
because they need to feed on large quantities of grain, oats, corn and soybeans; in return they
only produce small amounts of meat, dairy products or eggs. Also according to PETA,
production of animals plays a serious role in the strain on our water supply. With nearly half of
our water supply used goes to raising animals, cleaning the factories where animals are
slaughtered, the drinking water for the animals as well as watering the crops grown for the
animals. (Turk J. & Bensel T. 2011)
Pollution and fecal contamination is a problem that escapades from making animals products.
The good news is that it's easier than ever to switch to an Earth-friendly vegan diet. Take PETA's
Pledge to Be Vegan for 30 Days. After a month, you will likely see an improvement in your
Health and your conscience will be lighter, knowing you are doing your part to help the
environment and the animals used for food.
