Proposal for Implementation of Active Directory for Riordan Manufacturing

Organize Users into Groups

This is a proposal to create Microsoft's Windows 2003 Active Directory design for Riordan Manufacturing.

In this proposal I have outlined the process of preparing Active Directory service. An Active Directory service is a directory that keeps the information about objects on a network and makes this information available to users and network. These objects are a database is where all the information that reference to users, groups, servers, printers and all the information that is shared in located. To have an Active Directory that is designed and structured well is vital to the successful operation of Riordan Manufacturing Network.

Based on the proposed Active Directory set up submitted in a earlier proposal for a single forest multi-domain with one main domain and four child domains which the simplest and easiest design to administer. This design will allow for Riordan Manufacturing to take full advantage of the Active Directory organizational capabilities. Within each site's domain, default Organizational Units (OU) are placed (Users, Computers, and Domain Controllers). 'OUs are containers within domains that can contain other OUs, users, groups, computers, and other objects. These OUs and sub-OUs form a hierarchical structure within a domain, and are primarily used to group objects for management purposes. The default OU is where exiting user groups and resources will be initially contained.

In addition to the default OU, other OU accounts have been established for each site domain. Every site domain has the server OU and the default, and at least one more OU for the department breakdown within the site. Within each department OU is the container breakdown of Users, Groups, Computers, Admin and Service Accounts or resources. This will help manage each department users per their network needs.

The Corporate Head Quarters Domain contains 6 additional OU accounts. Four of these represent the different departments within this office site, which are corporate marketing, finance, human resources one is for
