Over the past few weeks, this course has made me think of what I have taken away from my time here at Ashford University. Having been a student for so long, the first thing that came to mind is how much I have changed and grown as a person. My general education courses have helped me develop my writing and communication skills as well. There are many ways to acquire these skills, but personally the feedback that was given to me from my instructors has helped me make the changes necessary to better myself and my writing. With each assignment, I would make sure not to make the same mistakes as the week before and slowly my writing started to improve.
Being able to communicate in a way that is professional and understandable is imperative when working in an office atmosphere. One way that I plan on using these skills in my everyday life would be at my place of employment. In working in a Human Resource department of any company there is a level of professionalism that has to be displayed. Once an employer knows that you are college educated, it seems that the expectations that are had for communicating increase. Once you show an employer that you can communicate with ease, and then they will start to see the reflection of the education that you received.
All in all, each general education course is just as important as the next. Writing and communicating at a level that is expected is crucial once a student has a degree in hand because it is expected. These general education courses should be taken by everyone because it helps us as students to grow within our writing and to push ourselves. I could not see myself where I am at professionally today without having my general education course to help.
