Reaction Paper
My reaction to President Benigno Aquino III's third state of the nation address is that I am glad to know that his desires to improve and develop Philippines are easily coming true. He discussed some of his platforms when he first came in as the president of the Philippines. He said that the relief goods are waiting for the people who will be affected by typhoons and other catastrophes and people will not anymore wait for the relief to come. Also included in his SONA are issues regarding the credit rating of the Philippines, he said that we are now ranked second in Asia while China being the first. As his SONA goes on, he kept on saying positive outcomes on his projects, such as, his housing projects, school projects and health projects. As a student, I'm convinced with his speech because he is showing statistics which are truly reliable. PNoy said that there will be 43.61% budget increase in State Universities and Colleges in the subsequent year. That was very good news for me because I'm studying in a State University. There were so many things discussed during his speech and I will site just a few of them. He said that, unemployment rate in the country is decreasing, they are making airports in some isolated places, NAIA 3 will also be upgraded, roads like SLEx & NLEx will have elevated SLEx NLEx connector in 2015 that will make the travel time from Clark to Calamba only 1 hour and 40 minutes. The President also said that before, people are shouting "wake up!" to the government to fix problems regarding damaged roads, now, people are pissed because of so much traffic due to road development. I laughed in what he said because it is truly happening. Pnoy discussed about crime volume and he said it has decreased by 50% in his administration, and my question is, why do I still see crimes in news everyday? I'm not actually contradicting in what he said but I see no evidence of decreasing crime rate that is why I disagree on that one. Another thing I want to give weight is what said about the National Security Development. He said there will be new airplanes, ships, helicopters and laboratories that will be given to AFP to protect the country. There is one thing I noticed that he did not say about the national security. It is the issue about the Scarborough Shoal which is now being claimed by China. In my perspective as a student, there is no question that the said island is ours and China should have no concern about it. Now the big question is, despite of this non-stop issue regarding the Scarborough Shoal, why didn't the President discussed about it? Is he afraid of China? For me, there is no reason for him to be afraid to speak out. We have to fight for our rights especially if we know we are in the right side. We have to defend our country against the bullying of China.
One time, it came to my mind that if only Dr. Jose Rizal is alive, he could
