Reflective Writing
In the investigative workplace project, our team has chosen insurance industry as target investigated field. We have conducted an interview with Mr. Joe Tsang, Regional Manager of Prudential. I have gained more insight about the investigated field and Prudential from the project. Moreover, I also obtained precious experiences from working with my teammates.
For the investigated field, which was insurance industry, I learnt that the language required to work in this industry was only depends on your target market. Even for a regional manager, English reading was the only important part for his job. However, it was an absolute advantage that you are able to speak fluent foreign languages, especially mandarin Chinese. It was because you can approach more clients speaking in different languages and your market can be expanded by removing the communication barrier. Company will offer many trainings focusing on presentation skills and social skills. The most important thing is that we should realize our strength and weakness and think of whether we are suitable to work in insurance industry. I think it is helpful to bring the colleagues working closer. I think the insurance company quite encouraged competitions among agents as I found there were many ranking of commission earned posted on the wall of the office. It is expected that the competition for promotion in Prudential probably be very keen. After we interviewed with Mr. Joe Tsang, we did learn a lot from his sharing. He told us so much first-hand information and hands-on work experience about working in insurance company. It made us have more insight to insurance company about understanding the job nature and company culture. I thought it is important for our penultimate year students to explore more different career path before graduation. The investigative workplace project offered us such a precious opportunity. The interview broadened our horizon through talking with such a sophisticated official in Prudential. He gave us so many enlightening and inspiring advices. Learning is not only confined in lecture hall, but also our environment. We should be more willing to help and take up the responsibility.
Last but not least, I found the thing I learnt from the lecture was very useful including writing skill and the interview techniques. The project was a good chance for us to practice from writing
