INTRODUCTION
PERSONAL EVALUATION
Role play is the first task which randomly given to students including me. Basically, role play is the performance or acting of particular role. Each of students has been given their role that need to be performed later on in class. Thus, my task for this role play is about a meeting between two potential business partner and my role in this particular role play is as an initiator, the one whom initiating the business partnership. My main role as a business initiator is to look for a suits business partner and have a negotiation so that she would agree with the terms of my business. The storyline begins as soon as I am planning to open up a bakery shop and looking for a potential business partner to run up the shop with me. Since I am lacking of experiences and capitals to run this business so I decided to look for a partner which has that kind of knowledge. At the end of my finding, I finally have chosen a person who used to run up two bakery and café shops.
At the same time, conflict arises when my potential business partner is voicing out about the distribution of profits. She asks me more that I’ve planned before. After a long conversation and negotiation occurred between us, I finally decided to change a plan, means I am trying to fulfil her request. Honestly speaking, having a role as an initiator is pretty hard. This is because being an initiator is like you are being a boss and need to have a better plan to convince the others. So, since this going to be part of my role, I need to prepare everything very well such a good marketing strategy, financing as well controlling strategy.
Hence, from my point of view being involved in business meeting is not easy as people could see. This is because sometimes anything might go wrong because people thought are different. Back to my role as an initiator, persuading my potential business partner is going to be hard because both may have different reasons and opinions. However, for the overall part of the story obviously it is pretty beneficial for me as it can guide me on how to properly prepare and manage people in meeting.
STRATEGIES USED
COMMUNICATION STRATEGY
First and foremost, I have chosen communication strategy for my role play. Basically, communication is a process of sending and receiving information between two or more people. The sender is the person who sending the information while the receiver is actually the person who receiving the information. In fact, the information communicated could be anything such as ideas, opinions, facts, concepts and many more (Shawn Grimsley, 2003). There are three types of communication which are assertive communication, passive communication and aggressive communication.
Therefore, for my role play, I choose an assertive communication, a form of communication in which you speak up for your right and take into account the rights and feelings of others (Neidhardt E., Weinstein, M., & Conry. R,1990). The reason I choose assertive communication is because it is a suitable communication to use in negotiation especially when dealing with a new partner. Thus, since I am going to have a negotiation with my potential business partner so I need to be honest like voicing out my opinions to her and also I will let her share her opinions about our new project, Bakery shop. For instance, I decided to distribute only 25% from the total profits to her but she not really agreed with that and ask me for more. Then, I let her tell me what is actually she expects from me. Besides, I also going to use assertiveness when she asked me to open up a café in the bakery. Since the idea is quite interesting, so I choose to approve her idea so that she is not going to be offended.
PERSUASIVE STRATEGY
In addition, in my role play I have chosen persuasive strategy as well. Persuasive skills can be defined as a process in which people try to influence the beliefs or the actions of others (Britannica, 2015). Therefore, as an initiator I choose to use this strategy so that my potential business partner could trust me and agree to join me as a partnership. For example, in my role play I was planning to only taking part in managing suppliers as my excuse was I have a plenty of experiences before. Then I try to persuade her to manage two tasks which are managing workers and customers. So she might be agreed with my suggestion because she used to involve in that jobs before. In a meantime, I also was planning to explain her clearly about all my strategies especially regarding my marketing, financing and controlling plans so that she would be proud of my plan and directly put her trust to join me as a partnership. “Please do not worries about that, I will try to consider your ideas once you agreed to be my partner and sign this contract”. This is one example of how I am going to use persuasive strategy to persuade my potential business partner.
