1. IDENTIFY 5 COMMERCIALS THAT APPEAL TO DIFFERENT LEVELS OF NEEDS
BASIC NEEDS: KEN-CHIC FAST FOOD RESTAURANT (KTN EVERYDAY PRIMETIME)
The advertisement shows a man who really likes eating chicken. His love for chicken is disliked by his wife. His love for chicken even forces him to sneak around the house and eventually end up eating in bed. This advertisement shows the basic need of food and satisfies Maslow's Hierarchy.
SAFETY NEEDS: AUTO ASSURANCE INSURANCE COMPANY (STANDARD NEWSPAPER)
The advertisement is about the company's insurance policy. It shows how the company will cater for its clients in the event of an accident or vehicle breakdown. They have promised a courtesy car during the time your car has broken down or has been involved in an accident. The advertisement shows how the company offers security in times of crisis.
SOCIAL NEEDS:
SELF ESTEEM: NIVEA ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE ANTI-CELLULITE CREAM. (BILLBOARD ON UHURU HIGHWAY)
The advertisement has women well advanced in age. These women are also quite plump but they have worn shorts confidently. Apparently the cream is able to work 'magic' and the women can confidently wear their shorts without the embarrassment of the cellulite affected thighs. This boosts the self esteem of the consumer and hence the advertisement.
SELF ACTUALISATION: THE CO-OP BANK ADVERTISEMENT. (KTN EVERYDAY DURING BUSINESS NEWS)
It shows a fairly old man probably just retired, who is with his driver and he is showing the viewer his achievements. He has a lovely pick- up truck and it is being chauffeured by his driver. The man has achieved his dreams apparently with the help of the bank. This advertisement caters for self-actualization.
