If same sex marriage was allowed it would in all reality decrease the divorce rate, people would not have to lie about their sexuality or get married to hide the fact that they are gay. Some homosexuals attempt to live a "straight life" and live a miserable lie just because society can't face homosexuality.
Marriage was based on a male and a female to reproduce, it states that homosexuals cannot reproduce that is why they should not be allowed to marry, so if a man and women want married and one of them is sterile and cannot reproduce should they not be allowed to just because they cannot reproduce. It seems to be hypocritical to base that homosexuals cannot get married.
It all comes down to the fact that the "bible" is the only written document that says it is not acceptable to be homosexual. If god created all of us equally, then why is homosexuality forbidden when we are all in fact a piece of god's work. We need to place marriage as strictly a religious ceremony, with the civil union being the government added part that grants all the legal benefits, or we need to allow homosexuals to be allowed to marry.
If it isn't a problem for a gay person to protect us and guide us, such as a policeman/woman, firefighter, paramedic, and State, Government officials then why shouldn't it be okay for them to love whom they wish. They pay taxes just like heterosexual people. All they are looking is not to harm anyone they just want the same benefits as a married couple are entitled to. Marriage is a religious institution and the State and Government really should not have a say in the matter. It's a governmental and federal dictation; they should run the government and not be worried about who is marrying who.
"The freedom to marry is a basic human right that belongs to each individual--not the state. The government should not be in the position of arranging our marriages,"(Matt Coles).
On May 19, 2011 The House of Representatives approved the bill for a "Civil Union" between homosexual couples.
Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands? ~Ernest Gaines
You are digging for the answers until your fingers bleed, to satisfy the hunger, to satiate the need.... And as you pray in your darkness for wings to set you free, you are bound to your silent legacy. ~Melissa Etheridge, "Silent Legacy," Yes I Am, 1993
Straight Americans need... an education of the heart and soul. They must understand - to begin with - how it can feel to spend years denying your own deepest truths, to sit silently through classes, meals, and church services while people you love toss off remarks that brutalize your soul. ~Bruce Bawer, The Advocate, 28 April 1998
