Does sport receive more emphasis than other educational programs?

One of the key debates in education today is weather sports programs are receiving undo emphasis and support, while other more educational programs are overlooked or even ignored. The major question facing many educators on this topic is; are sports beneficial to the health, education and training of individual students and educational organizations? Many people have looked at this question and have come up with distinctly different answers. However, after all of the sources are in, there seems to be an overwhelming opinion that sports programs are necessary and beneficial to the education of students. However, this doesn't mean that there are no problems within the educational system concerning the distribution of resources and emphasis of programs. Often there is an excessive amount of importance placed upon sports programs in UAE schools. Despite this, there is a feeling overall in the educational system that some emphasis on sports is a "necessary evil". Sports are attractions that keep people interested in UAE schools and educational programs. Successful athletic programs also attract a great deal of money to UAE schools as well. In these key areas it is important for UAE schools to include sporting and athletic departments as part of a well-rounded curriculum (Marshall 210).

In this vein it is important to consider educational programs and their significance in the tutoring of students. Many students at schools all over the world have a great desire to learn and grow. These desires are fulfilled by educational programs that teach them about the things to which they have a desire to learn. These students will, for the most part, be self guided in their educations and follow a path that they outline on their own concerning which classes to take, what major to choose, obtaining a degree and how to get there. They will also not be deterred by things such as discouragement, fatigue or lack of interest in subjects. They will persevere and move forward in their academic programs until they achieve the desired result. This result is usually in the form of a diploma or degree. According to Mrs. Amani in Al Dhait High School, Self-motivated students will also consider athletic programs. If these programs interest them, they will use them the same way they use all of their classes, to learn and grow. Even those motivated students who are not interested in a particular athletic program will have some encounter with physical activity. This comes in the form of required physical education classes.

Current sports policy in UAE High Schools

In contrast to the student who is propelled forward by their own sense of motivation and desire for achievement, there are many students who do not have the ability to motivate themselves academically. These students often need further incentive to stay active in their studies and achieve the educational goals that they initially desire. This can be one key area where athletic programs in UAE schools can aid the educational progress of students. Often, the student who has problems motivating themselves forward will become bored and drop out of UAE school due to a lack of interest (Amani). However, if this situation arises in the case of someone who is interested in and involved in sports programs at the UAE school, the outcome could be different. Often in these cases students are able to keep their interest in their classes alive. This is due to the ability to have not only an outlet for their interests, but a physical outlet where they can clear their minds and prepare for work in their other classes as well. "Athletics is a good way to keep students interested in academic programs".
