The Diversity of Google

Planning

When planning, its founders of Google must have the foresight to consider issues of diversity. Google incorporates diversity when they decide to hire to fill a particular position that is available within their company. Google realizes that they need to reflect diversity in every aspect of their business. By including diversity in their planning, Google will always be among the elite when it comes to searching the Internet for information. Google also drives innovation among its competitors, which makes for a better website.

Organizing

When developing the organization and structure of a company, such as Google diversity must be a part of the process. Google's commitment to diversity must lead from the top down. Its starts with the founders of the company, then to the Board of Directors. Google's board should include a diverse group of individuals. Their board members must be diverse in experiences, accomplishments and background.

Leading

Leading is an exercise in diversity management. Larry Page and Sergey Brin recognized this when they hired David Drummond in 2002; they knew that they had found the right person to fill the position of Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Chief Legal Officer. Mr. Drummond was charged with the task of leading Google's global teams for legal, government relations, corporate development (M&A and investment projects) and new business development (strategic partners and licensing opportunities) (Google Management Team, n.d.). This is a prime example, despite the color of his skin; they knew that his talents and expertise could help lead Google to what it is today.

Controlling

Google today has established to be one of the most successful websites to date. From the CEO to the Board of Directors, Google has proved that they can hire diverse people from all walks of life to make sure their company keeps running smoothly for many years to come. Every employee feels that they are a part of a team, some of them wear many hats and they fill that they can pose questions directly to Larry or Sergey in meetings that are held each week. And to show how Google values their employees, Google has given all of its employees $1,000 cash "holiday bonuses" and 2011 salary increases of at least 10%. The 10% company-wide raise will take effect on January 1, 2011 (Blodget, 2011).
