Section II

All throughout history India has been a place of rich history culture and prosperity. The groundwork for our understanding of India is well explained between the years of 650 CE and 1750 CE. During this period of time the Indian subcontinent had an influx of new idea's and technology, through trade, but still tried to maintain their culture and protect it from the outside cultures.

With new connections between areas that were being established in this period of time proved invaluable for the trading networks of the Indian Ocean. This allowed for previously unknown technologies to develop and spread. During this time the Magnetic compass, the astrolabe and the chronometer allowed for trade to become easier, simpler, and safer. Because of India's prime location in trade many nations wanted a stake of the land. Nations that were more organized than the natives, such as the Chinese and the Arabs were able to dominate the trade because of superior technology and order. During the same period of time another change in Indian Ocean trade is the amount that is being completed. As trade began to pick up cities flourished and were able to push more money into the trading that was going on. As a result the number of places and regions that were participating increased drastically. This prosperity led to other groups of people wanting to settle in the area of the Indian subcontinent. Now regions could hold on to products that previously would have been unavailable, spurring on cultural diffusion. Africa's greater involvement led to the Chinese and Arabs gaining more gold and iron than they had in their countries, and strengthened their militaries.
