That's what SMK says

In The Secret Life of Bees, Sue Monk Kidd proves that we are not as diverse from a creature as the Bee. As human beings, we are apt to think we are so much better than all other living beings; that we cannot be compared with anything of different form or race. We are very wrong in thinking that. Sue Monk Kidd compares a bee society to a human one. Initially, the writer allows the reader to understand that we are like bees in the way we carry on life and require love from people. According to Kidd, the novel also depicts how like bees, human beings work as a group, rather than skeptical people. Finally, we also differ from bees in distinctive ways such as being able to substitute a boss and the capability to poses hatred the novel.

The author permits the reader to understand that we are like bees in the way we cope with life and crave love from people. "Honeybees depend not only on physical contact with the colony, but also require its social companionship and support. Isolate a honeybee from her sisters and she will soon die."This quote shows through direct characterization (T) of the bees how these small creatures are just like humans in the way they need companionship and love from others. SMK shows it very frequently in the novel and that is why Lily and other characters can relate to the bees. Lily couldn't have survived without the support of Rosaleen. The reader agrees (E) with SMK and tries to relate to the bees as well, which makes him want to think of himself and the way he connects with his peers. SMK suggests that like bees, humans need affection and love from others to survive through life. No one can endure without the love of others and their support (M). "I can't think of anything I'd rather have more than somebody loving me." Through indirect characterization (T), this quote shows Lily's need of affection. SMK shows it clearly throughout the novel that Lily is a person who needs attention and care since she lost her mother at a very young age and is aching for what she did when she was 4; therefore this quote indirectly characterizes Lily's personality. The reader feels sympathy (E) for Lily because for once, she has someone who cares for her and makes her feel special and significant, her lover Zach. She wants to constantly have this feeling of happiness inside of her. SMK implies that a human always wants to feel special and important. He wants numerous people to love him and to care for him, one person is not enough; the more the merrier. (M)

The novel also shows that both humans and bees are able to work together by forming a group. "It takes honeybee workers ten million foraging trips to gather enough nectar to make one pound of honey". SMK uses this quote as a hook (T) to open chap12. It captures the reader's attention and invites him to read the chapter since she makes it sound very interesting and exciting. The reader is amazed (E) by what he is reading since 10 million foraging trips is unbearable. SMK suggests that humans, just like bees are more productive
