I. Kidd Monk, Sue Secret Life of Bees. Random house. July 1964.

II. 1964 in South Carolina. Lily Owens only had one large memory of her mother being killed. The closest thing to a mother Lily had been Rosaleen. Rosaleen decides to dishonor the three greater opinionated people in North Carolina. The police take her to jail, but Lily decides to break her out of jail and leave heading to Tiburon. A town Lily believes holds many secrets of her mother. They show up to the Boatwright's who the owners of the pink house were. The Boatwright sisters are interesting black beekeepers. August Boatwright showed Lily the different world of bees honey and the Black Madonna or Black Mary. Tiburon is a place of finding where you belong and Lily has found herself belonging there.

III. Sue Monk Kid was born in Sylvester, Georgia on August 12, 1948. She was raised in Georgia with her very extravagant father. She went to Texas Christian Universtiy majoring in Nursing and graduating in 1970. She worked as an R.N. until she met her husband Sandy Kidd and has two children. Her and her family moved to south Carolina where she enlisted in writing classes. She started out writing nonfiction inspirational pieces. Her first book was called God's Joyful Surprise which was quickly accompanied by When the Heart Waits. Six years later Kidd wrote The Dance of the Dissident Daughter while turning her contemplation to feminist spirituality. In 2002 she wrote The Secret Life of Bees. The Secret Life of Bees was the book she is best known for and her first novel.
