Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson was the head of a committee of five in preparing the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson was born at Shadwell in what is now Albemarle County, VA., on April 13, 1743. Thomas Jefferson attended the college of William and Mary (1760-1762) and then studied law with George WYTHE. In 1769 he began 6 years of services as a representative in the Virginia House of Burgesses. The first of the 4th year of his term he married Martha Wayles Skelton (Jan. 1, 1772). They had 6 children, two of whom survived into adulthood. Thomas Jefferson was 33 years old when he wrote the Declaration of Independence and signed it. He represented the state of Virginia at the time of the Declaration of Independence.

Thomas Jefferson Signed and wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776. He first signed the Declaration of Independence because he wrote it. He was one of 5 people who wrote the Declaration of Independence. After it was partially wrote he made a draft of it. It would be observed, fixed them and then Thomas Jefferson wrote a full copy to be printed. Thomas Jefferson also signed the Declaration of Independence because he believed in this declaration. Back in 1774 he wrote a Political Pamphlet called "A Summary View of the Rights of British America." This pamphlet Argues on the basis of natural rights theory. Thomas Jefferson claims that colonial allegiance to the king was voluntary. From Thomas Jefferson's words "The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them." Another reason why Thomas Jefferson might have signed the Declaration of Independence is to bring himself up in the world, in that to president and a bigger political person. Back in 1768 he was elected to the House of Burgesses, in 1774 he wrote the political pamphlet, in 1775 he was elected to continental Congress; in 1776 he wrote the Declaration of Independence and signed it. Then from there on out it was nothing but up hill like in 1797-1801 he was vice president and the president in 1801 to 1809.

Thomas Jefferson did not have very many bad consequences after signing the Declaration of Independence. His life went from being an ok well known to a greatly well known/political person. He served as the governor of Virginia in 1779 to 1781. Then he was vice president and then president of America. His political life exploded after signing the Declaration of Independence. He also was Commissioner and Minister of France. He also opened the University of Virginia one year before his death on July 4, 1826. It was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence when he died at Monticello. Monticello was his house that lay on the 1,000 acre land given to him from his father
