Tourism
Introduction
The word 'tourism' is derived from a combination of Latin word 'tornare' and Greek word 'tornos', which mean a lathe or circle. In modern English the tourism is derived from 'tour' and 'ism'. Tourism is a typical movement activity of fashion that people visit different places. For a fine definition of tourism, according to Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary of Seventh edition (pp.1624), it defines, "the business activity connected with providing accommodation, services, and entertainment for people who are visiting a place for pleasure".
The person who travels from place to place is known as tourists. The tourists travel for different purposes. These purposes evolve out different types of tourism such as leisure, winter, mass, adjectival, sustainable, eco-tourism, pro-poor, recession, medical, education, creativity, dark doom and sports tourism. These all have different subtypes of tourism such as pilgrimage tourism, agri-tourism, domestic tourism, inbound and outbound tourism, etc. Due to the growth of this field, in the modern, tourism is the world largest industry among other industries.
With the growing importance and necessity, tourism is a standard and compulsory factor guiding every country's economy directly and indirectly. Every nation have their unique identity and features which can be also visible factors to show or highlight through tourism. Visible factors may be anything such as beautiful sceneries, modern construction of building or technology, culture and religion, relaxation destination, etc. Practically, we can take the examples like Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha) of Nepal, beautiful cities of Malaysia and Dubai, ancient construction of Pyramid, holiday packages in Europe countries, etc.
Background and development
In early days, wealthy people have always travelled to distant parts of the world to see great buildings, works of arts, learn new languages, and experience new culture and to taste different foods. Tourism activities of people were also very low due to low population, facilities, lack of transportation, etc. But nowadays, the people of low class also travel around the country being a domestic tourist. There is nit huge gap between tourism of ten years ago and now. There have been little changes over this period. The difference is additional adventure and pleasure during travelling in tourism. People nowadays prefer tourism with additional adventurous activities like hiking, trekking, etc and pleasures from those activities.
With gradual development of technology and communication, tourism products and services have been made available easily. For e.g. a person of America can book hotels and lodges through the use of emails, internet, telephone, fax, etc in any part of Nepal. The new phase of tourism has introduce more services oriented facilities rather than the activities self done in the travelling period.
Argument
Tourism plays a great important role in generating income and employment. It is one of the main sources of foreign exchanges and revenue earning for any countries
