If your planning on going to Montego Bay, remember to visit the local interests. I found it very rewarding to eat and mingle with the locals. If you make a friend, you will save exceptionally. When visiting Jamaica, you will find out that there is a local fee and a tourist fee. Have your local friends conduct much of the exchanges, whereas, a single word from you will instantly inflate the cost. If you come with foreign currency, exchange it with Jamaican currency. Some Jamaican vendors will charge "a tax" for using foreign bills. So if you visit an ATM,only withdraw Jamaican cash. Another thing that I want to mention, is cab fair. Jamaicans are not very pushy when it comes to tipping, but it is customary. You will find, that tipping someone you plan to revisit will insure even better service the next time around. Jamaicans have great memories. Trust me! Oh I almost forgot, If you want to save money on housing, stay in a guest house or small hotel. I only paid $20-$50 per night. It may not have all the ammentities as a resort, but it frees up money to spend on activities. As I memtioned before, If you make local friends, you might be able to stay with them the next time you visit Jamaica. Then, you will definitely be able to afford the candle light dinners on the beach, the helichopper rides,the horseback riding, the glass bottom boat tour to swimming with the dolphins.
