Violence in Video Games

In this paper I will be discussing violence in video games and how it relates to violence in reality. Most people play video games not realizing the effect it has on them mentally. Playing violent video games has a negative effect on whoever is playing. When someone plays a video game it is downloaded through your eyes. When something is downloaded through your eyes it directly informs your brain and it can manifest into reality. Violent videogames were meant to desensitize the human mind while also programming them to be violent.

Games like Grand Theft Auto promote senseless violence and although it is rated "M" for mature, it is mostly played by immature youth ranging from as young as four years old. Many crimes that are committed can be connected to some of the violent video games played in this day and time. Programming these images into the mind only programs it to subconsciously react to real life situations violently. As far as children, with cartoon like rated "E for everyone" games such as "Jack and Daxter", "Crash Bandicoot" and "Donkey Kong" all promoted destruction and violence. Most parents do not read the back of games with warnings such as "mild violence" cartoon violence and etc.; the parent usually only checks to see if it's rated "E". On the other hand there are parents who do not check at all and get any game for their children. Violent videogames has a big connection with the up rise in violence. Just as music has the ability to do, what is seen through the eyes can stay in your head by way of mnemonic device.

It is possible for ones character to change based off of video games, and it is quite ashamed to see when video games are not solely based off of reality. Some seclude their self from outside life and just play games all day. Some people become a product of living behind a video game controller and become controlled by it. One can become a slave to a television screen constantly taking images into their eyes. If one plays violent video games constantly such as "Call of Duty Black Ops" their mind is infested with violent images. It can affect day to day life, sleep, dreams, social life etc. Many find new friends by way of a video game network from online gaming. There are many negative effects and all in all it is a distraction, it only moves one to stay out of touch with reality.

In conclusion violent video games are a danger to any gamers mind. Every person does not react the same way to what they hear and see. Some react negatively and some do not react at all but either way it is a mental negative effect. If negative things are put in the mind, negative things will manifest. I think society should take into consideration what type of games that are played. Games are nothing more than what it's called, games, tricks that are played on the brain.
