Chapter 1 Assignment 1.1: Communication Process Model
Misunderstanding 1
Who was the sender? Myself
Who was the receiver? Vendor Rep. from Coors Distributors
What was the message? An order placed for the next scheduled delivery
What channel was used to send the message? Phone call that was sent to voicemail
What was the misunderstanding that occurred? The order was never filled
How could the misunderstanding have been avoided? Reassuring that the order was received.
1. What did you learn about the communication process from this activity?
Technology has its flaws at times. Just because a message has been sent out, without any reassurance that the message has been received, the sender has no way of knowing that the receiver got it.
2. What seemed to be the main causes of the misunderstandings?
The main cause was that even though the message was sent it was never received. Some type of error was made that can't really be explained. The main problem was that I was sure that the order was filled but the rep never got it to put in the system. A follow up should have been made by myself to ensure that the order was truly placed.
Misunderstanding 2
Who was the sender? Polo Corporate
Who was the receiver? Aurora Farms Polo Outlet Store
What was the message? Updated floor plans for the manikins and the wall face outs
What channel was used to send the message? E-mail
What was the misunderstanding that occurred? Most of the clothing was not available to our store
How could the misunderstanding have been avoided? Making two different structures one for high-end retail stores and one outlet stores
1. What did you learn about the communication process from this activity?
Corporations have many things to deligate. Some aspects get lose in the bigger picture.
2. What seemed to be the main causes of the misunderstandings?
The main cause of the misunderstanding is that the two types of stores are still on the same schedule. Sales can be used the same in both store fronts because the marketable sales are on items that go to both stores. The manikins and face outs are used to show newer items that are at full retail price in the full retail stores but the outlet stores get left over items mixed with new items
