Since I was a child, my dream school had always been Florida State University. I admired the prestige behind the name, as well as the ample school spirit from students, alumni, and fans. The concept of an HBCU hadn't been introduced to me until high school, but my mind was still set on Florida State. Throughout grade school, I had always gone to predominately white schools. I had never felt like I was in place, I always felt like an outsider. I visited Florida A&M while on a college tour and instantly fell in love. I had never been in a learning environment that made me feel like I was a part of a family. After the visit I researched and asked around about Florida A&M, and for the most part I liked what I heard. Since we don't live in a perfect world, money was also a key factor in my decision. Fortunately I was blessed to have been awarded a full scholarship from the university, therefore I felt like I was destined to attend Florida A&M.
Throughout my duration at Florida A&M, I plan to grow and excel, not only academically but as a person as well. I feel as if the professors here care about students further than just their grades in the classroom. My geography professor somehow finds a way to apply every lesson and lecture to real life. Though it's cliché and typical for every college student, but I expect to learn responsibility and how to fend for myself. My mother always told me college was about networking so I anticipate meeting different people who can be beneficial to me in the long run. Last but not least, I expect to have the time of my life. Everybody knows college isn't only about academics and earning a degree. In college, most students have adult privileges without the adult responsibilities. I plan to take full advantage of my years here at Florida A&M University.
